The America We Knew

droneFor a while now, deep in my gut, I have sensed that something was going seriously wrong with our country. I’m not talking about the arguments that republicans and democrats have over the tax rate, drinking age, or funding of programs, though I suppose that those arguments could have added to my sense that something is wrong.

I am talking about the overall belief of what is good and what is evil. What is ethical and what is amoral. What we, as Americans, expect our country to stand for.

Well, today, I have come to the conclusion that the America that I knew as a child, the America that I brought my children into, no longer exists.

Attorney General Eric Holder has stated that Barack Obama has the power to order a drone strike against a U.S. citizen, on U.S. soil, without a trial.

When you combine this with the fact that Homeland Security has purchased enough ammunition this year to fight a full scale Iraq war for 25 years, purchased 2,700 mine proof “tanks” for domestic use, and has just today revealed the existence of a drone that can trace your cell phone signal while at the same time determining whether or no you have a firearm… we have crossed a line we may never step back from.

In summary, as of today, Barack Obama can spy on you at night, while listening to your cell phone, and decide that because you are armed, he can kill you. Legally.

This is NOT the America we knew.
