Capitol NashvilleWhen was the last time you did something for the first time? That’s the question Darius Rucker asks in his percussive new single, “For the First Time.”

The South Carolina native recalls how he came to write the tune. “As a songwriter, sometimes the smallest idea can elicit a feeling and then you have this daunting task of trying to relay that emotion and energy into a three-minute song,” he explains.

For Darius, that moment of inspiration came with the song’s opening line, “You say you’ve never danced to a dashboard singin’ R.E.M. under summer stars,” which name-checks the Athens, Georgia …read more

CMTOn Thursday night’s new episode of Nashville on CMT, Deacon Claybourne resisted the idea of a romantic future after the death of his wife, Rayna Jaymes.

While several women made overtures toward the widower, Deacon himself was shocked to find he enjoyed spending time with singer/songwriter Jessie Caine. As Zach Welles steered him toward signing her to Highway 65, Deacon tried to circumvent any chance for romance by pointing out that the relationship should remain strictly platonic.

Meanwhile, Zach Welles’ future with Will Lexington was called into question as Will discovered Zach’s multiple cellphones, and a previous boyfriend he couldn’t let go …read more

Curb RecordsDylan Scott‘s breakthrough hit, “My Girl,” may very well be the only country song ever inspired by the rapper Eminem.

The idea for the tune was born when Dylan was home visiting his wife Blair, back when they were just dating.

“I moved to Nashville at 19 and she stayed in Louisiana, so we did long-distance for six years,” Dylan explains. “So I’d go home and visit her every chance I could, and this one particular time… we were riding around and she was flipping through my radio stations and she stopped when Eminem came on…”

ABC/Image Group LA It would appear that Old Dominion may have an aversion to appearing on their own album covers.

On Thursday, the band shared the artwork for their second record, Happy Endings, which will be out August 25. The cover features a needlework sampler of OD-related icons, but no photos of the group’s five members. Included in the images are a guitar, guns, flowers, the Statue of Liberty and Sasquatch, which has become the band’s symbol for their top-fifteen hit, “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart.”

For their 2015 debut, Meat and Candy, Old Dominion opted …read more
