The Nation Wide Food Drive Brought Thousands of Pounds of Food Again This Year for Marquette County Organizations
About 8,000 pounds of the food collected
With 16 city routes, 8 rural routes, and volunteers, letter carriers in Marquette brought in more non-perishable foods than they ever have.
The event took place in Marquette, Saturday, May 12th. Letter carriers delivered mail as usual, but they also collected food for the hungry that was left next to the mailboxes for them to pick up.
Larry Kuhn, a letter carrier from the Marquette Post Office, said the total was about 14,700 pounds!!
That beat last years total of around 14,ooo, by 700 pounds.
The food was distributed, by percentage, to local organizations like Voices for Youth, Janzen House, and the Harbor House. 70 percent of the goods were picked up by St. Vincent’s and the Salvation Army.
The food was brought back to the Post Office in Marquette by the workers and distributed from there.
Kuhn says he really enjoyed the event and it makes him and his coworkers happy.
