A New Therapy for Veterans: Riding Horses

The Horses for Heroes Program is Catching On.

In my magazine writing class I have my final paper coming up before graduation, like the rest of my final projects..GUH! But on Saturday March 31st I got to go down to Rapid City, MI to the Charity Hill Ranch to work on my paper.

I have been riding horses since before I could walk, so obviously they interest me and are a passion of mine. While I was looking around for information online about horse therapy, I came across this program called Horses for Heroes. The program helps military veterans with their physical and psychological needs threw horse riding. Wow. I have so much respect for our military members and helping them when they returned home with the use of horses, sounded like something I needed to see.

I got to go down and sit in on a therapy session at the Charity Hill Ranch. It was such a great experience getting to meet all of the wonderful coordinators, volunteers, and veterans who participate in the program. And seeing the benefit that the horses and the environment provided was something that can’t be explained. They even had a horse with spinal issues that had the same issues that most of the veterans did. It was very emotional.

If you ever get the opportunity to see something of that sort, animals helping people, do it. You will not regret it. Here’s the international website that I found the program. Horses for Heroes is a program under the PATH association.
