Did it Really Need a Sequel?

wonderfulHow’s this for a holiday announcement? A sequel to It’s a Wonderful Life, widely regarded as one of the classic Christmas movies in Hollywood history, is planned.

According to Variety, the follow-up will be titled It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, and will center around the unlikeable grandson of George Bailey, the character played by Jimmy Stewart in director Frank Capra’s 1946 film.

The plot of It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story is somewhat similar to that of the original: an angel shows the grandson, also named George Bailey, how the world would be better off had he never been born.

Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter Zuzu in the original — and delivered the memorable line “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!” — will fill the role of the angel. Jimmy Hawkins, who played Tommy Bailey in the original, and Carol Coombs, who played Janie Bailey, are in talks to return, too.

No word yet on who will star as the Bailey grandson.

It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, which is being developed by Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods., could be released in time for the 2015 holiday season.
