Savings Everywhere

Marquette, MI (12/2/13) The holiday shopping season has officially kicked off. Black Friday had people dropping their turkey legs for a shopping bag earlier than ever. Some sales actually started on Thursday afternoon. Did this early start serve to stop people from taking advantage of Cyber Monday?

It has been a tradition for years to wait in lines and fight to get the last Furby or Tickle-Me-Elmo. Then on Monday shoppers relax in the comfort of their homes to shop on the web. With some of these online sales starting as early as the day before Thanksgiving this year, many shoppers chose to avoid the entire retail fiasco.

Instead they filled virtual shopping carts and checked out with the security of services like PayPal. It’s safe to say that online businesses have exploded over the last couple of years. It wasn’t that long ago that searching Amazon would have brought up a map instead of a shopping website. Now, everything from music to clothing to furniture is purchased from sites and shipped to homes around the country.

It turns out that big-box retail stores were effected by the web based stores more than they expected. Walmart in Marquette is rumored to have missed their sales projections by over a hundred thousand dollars. There’s no denying that this is because of online shopping.

We may never see the end of Black Friday, but maybe the beast will be more tame with some of the pressure taken away. While you’re clicking your way to savings you might look at a few local places like Jilbert They have some fun gift boxes that you can pick up without getting trampled. Happy Holidays from all of us at WFXD!
