Admission Button for the 127th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament in Ishpeming

Ishpeming, Michigan  –  January 31, 2014  -  The 127th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament is coming up at Suicide Hill in Ishpeming on Wednesday, February 5th, and I just picked up my buttons for the event. It’s nice to see the familiar face of Coy Hill smiling on the buttons.

I spoke to the Vice President of the Ishpeming Ski Club, Bob Hendrickson, today and he said the button is a tribute to Coy Hill, who passed away in 2012. “He put so much of his life into it,” said Hendrickson. “A lot of people relate the ski jump with him.”

Hendrickson said one of the members wanted to put Coy Hill’s picture on the button this year and that prompted the club to “honor the great ones.”

As a cool piece of trivia, Mr. Hendrickson told me that the current ski jump structure at Ishpeming’s Suicide Hill was rebuilt in 1972 and Coy Hill was the first person to jump off the rebuilt structure. “He was integral in rebuilding the jump,” Hendrickson said, “and so he got the first ride.”

If you’re planning on going to the tournament and you haven’t gotten your admission buttons yet, we have them on the Shopping Show at Great Lakes Radio in Marquette or for a list of businesses in the area that are selling them, you can go to the Ishpeming Ski Club website.
