Iron Man Will Spend Birthday with Captain America!
In an interview with Variety, Robert Downey Jr. is whetting fans’ appetites for the follow-up to The Avengers. “This one is a very ambitious sequel,” the Iron Man actor says. “If you read it, it’s dense, it’s smart. [Writer/director] Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy.” The actor explains further, “My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There’s always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I’m really excited about this one.”
Meanwhile, Downey says he’s gearing up for another Marvel movie — as a fan. “I’m having 50 kids over and I’m screening Captain America 2 on my birthday [April 4], which happens to be the day it opens,” the actor says, explaining his youngest son, Exton, “believes that Captain America is real.”
Regarding Chris Evans, his Avengers co-star who plays the spangly hero, Downey admitted he helped talked him into playing Cap when Evans was hesitant about signing such a long contract with Marvel. “I also thought he was the perfect guy for the job,” Tony Stark’s alter ego told the trade. “I’m a fan of his.”
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which also stars Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, opens April 4. The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
