Major Discount is in Traverse City… where’s the snow?

Traverse City, MIJanuary 24, 2017 – Our part-time farmer and full-time 13 station radi0 owner, Major Discount, is out of town attending Michigan’s Farm Bureau Voice of Agriculture Conference in Traverse City.  He sent us some informative pictures from the Drones and TC Cherries Tour he attended yesterday.

Major Discount went to MSU’s Agriculture Technology program at Northwest Michigan College (NMC) to learn about the program’s post-high school training opportunities and NMC’s Unmanned Aerial Systems partnerships. Those partnerships bring the latest technology to agriculture.

Major Discount saw how this cherry juice was processed at Triple D Orchards, Inc.

Then the Major toured Triple D Orchards, Inc., a cherry processing facility located in Empire, Michigan along the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore where he got to see cherry concentrate being processed. How cool is that? The team at Triple T were making a special concentrate in smaller bottlers for a national promotion on enjoying cherries.

This also 2 day event included 5 additional meetings and break out session on how we can better communicate the safety in our food and how much farmers care about making their products the best that they can be.

Each of Michigan’s 83 counties have a local farm bureau. Sometime 3 or 4 counties ban together for a multi-county chapter.  A lot of good business on farming and production and core issues are discussed once a month with a strong focus on Young Farmers.

Since AG is the #2 industry in Michigan,  Major Discount says, “Dig into joining Farm, Bureau and get involved in a local chapter for a year.  It’s very interesting. You only commit to once a month. So join me and  Get in the Conversation. So if you need some encouragement call me at 906-361-deal“.

Michigan Farm Bureau is Michigan’s Voice of Agriculture, and you can be a part of that voice. Whether you’re a farmer/producer, or just a concerned citizen who cares about wholesome food from local farms, you can help sustain Michigan’s proud agricultural heritage by joining your local Farm Bureau.
