Marquette, MI  –  March 12, 2018  –  Sing It U.P. is back for a fourth round returning to The Up North Lodge after last year’s debut at Jackson’s Pit in Negaunee. The judges saw many new faces as well as a few repeat singers like Elizabeth Carrothers, who has participated in every Sing It U.P.!

The bar area was packed for the first night of auditions as the competitors sang their hearts out for the judges. Tonight’s contestants will be tough act to follow this coming Saturday with singers taking on some big voices in music like Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera.

With 9 contestants total during day one of auditions, Molly Ann Slovinski opened with “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood and nailed it. She did a great job throughout the entire song with her tune and pitch. Judges had only good things to say about Molly.

Following Molly was Gary Hagerman with an original song written and composed by him and a friend in Butte, Montana. Gary said “I’ve been doing music for about 24 years”, and it certainly showed with great song lyrics and a unique sound.

Up next, Candice Lillie took on “Fancy” by Reba McEntire. She carried herself well and if selected for to continue, she will certainly have the chance to grow throughout the competition.

Deanna DeValve took over the mic next to sing one of the more memorable pieces of the night. Singing her own song written about life in the Upper Peninsula, Deanna wowed the crowd as well as struck home with just about everyone in the bar.

After Deanna, four time contestant Elizabeth Carrothers took on powerhouse singer Christina Aguilera. Elizabeth has an impressive range and if the judges see fit, she could make a great addition for year four the competition.

Singer number 7, Jaz Bennete sang “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes. She had the who crowd moving along to the song with a great song choice. Sing It U.P. Judge Sandi said that “What’s Up” is actually one of her all time favorite songs!

Emcee Alex Baysore took a break for some crowd participation. We had a “text-to-win” event letting the crowd text their favorite singer of the night so far to put in their vote.

Elaine Heath was up next. Starting off a little rough, Elaine made up for in ten fold with an amazing voice and a powerful ending. Judges were very impressed with her performance despite restarting at the beginning of the song.

Ending the evening was The Up North Lodge’s very own, Ross Kemp. Ross let down his air and rocked the bar with “When I’m Gone” by Three Doors down. The Judges had some construction criticism for the Ross telling him to stand up straighter when he sang to help him get those notes out.

Drink specials, amazing food, and a good show full of local talent made for a great first night of Sing It U.P.
