Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball Team New Uniforms from Honor Credit Union

Thank You, Honor Credit Union! These Ishpeming Hematites look GREAT!

Ishpeming, MI –  January 28, 2016  –  The Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball Team received new jerseys thanks to Honor Credit Union! The team name simply says “Hematites” on the front of the jersey now instead of “Lady Hematites.”

Head coach Ryan Reichel wanted the girls to be seen as Hematites since they represent the school as well as any other team. Debates at some universities over removing “Lady” from the names of women’s sports teams have led to more than one school dropping the gender specific qualifier recently. These girls are Hematites, and now their jerseys reflect that.

“Honor Credit Union is a proud sponsor of the Hematite Nation,” said Jamie Gollakner Honor Credit Union Branch Manager in Negaunee. “We’ve got some halftime events planned during home games and we’ll be helping out at concession stands.”

Throughout January and February, you can see the Honor team in action at Ishpeming Hematites home games.

“Community involvement is one of our focuses,” said Gollakner. “Not only do we want to be the hometown credit union, we want to be involved, whether it’s helping out with the concession stands at local football games or basketball games, helping the schools with different events, or supporting teachers in the classroom, we’re committed to giving back to our communities.”
