Marquette, Michigan  –  January 7, 2014  –  Why does everything that happens these days need a special name?

I’m still talking about the weather and the recent discovery of the term “Polar Vortex”.  No, the term isn’t new, but every media outlet is using the term to show that this weather system is “More Special” than any cold spell we’ve ever experienced before.  First, it isn’t true, but you wouldn’t know that if you listen to every talking head on TV.  We’ve been colder… and you don’t have to go back centuries to see that.  In the late 1970’s we had a similar spell where temperatures stayed below zero for weeks… and the same thing happened in the mid-1990’s.  The 1930’s saw colder weather than this in Upper Michigan too.

So what’s so special about this year’s cold snap?  Well, it must be that there is no news the liberals want to talk about, so the weather takes the front page.  The Benghazi scandal and coverup, NSA spying, Obamacare hurting more people than it helps… these  stories pale in comparison to the weather being cold in the winter.  In days of yore, (that means “in the past” for those of you on the left) we had cold weather, and rather than whine, we would make sure our neighbors were OK… those of us in our right minds still do that… How about you?
