5/19/2014 Hancock, Michigan — I can be a pretty handy guy, and my trip to the Keweenaw this past weekend proved just that. On Friday night I traveled up to Houghton and Hancock to spend some time with a good friend of mine. He recently purchased a home and needed a true carpenter to help finish up some unfinished business. I’m just the person he needed! Well…. I ended up getting a few splinters while working with some slivers.

After enjoying a night out on the town Friday night I woke up only to find out I had to dig deep to find the true carpenter from within! You see, the past winter wreaked havoc on my friend’s deck. It was crooked, part of the railing fell off and needed some serious work done. I grabbed a hammer and some nails and went to work. Little did I realize after spending a couple hours and putting some serious effort into fixing the deck it ended up turning out like new in the end.

We worked on getting the railing back up that had completely fallen off. In the midst of working with slivers of wood I found both my hands to be full of splinters. OUCH! They are painful. We enjoyed reminiscing and a few good laughs along the way. Surprisingly enough, my friend was pretty satisfied with how the deck turned out. As you can see in the picture, that’s the railing that had basically fallen completely apart. We ended up repairing the deck…. in my opinion… I did MOST of the hard work!
