6/17/2014 Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan — As you’ve heard, this past weekend my travels took me to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was so close to the campground I stayed at in Soo, Michigan that you could almost feel it! I went to visit my family over the weekend and stayed right along the St. Mary’s River.

When the 1,000 foot ships drove by on the St. Mary’s River they were practically within reach of the campground! Many of the ships that drove by were heading to Marquette and Duluth, Minnesota. If you’ve ever been to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan you know all about the Soo Locks, too.

While walking around downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan my family and I decided to stop at the Soo Locks. We heard a horn blow while walking and immediately knew a ship was coming through. A ship that was heading from Marquette made a stop at the Locks. We made it just in time! Although I have seen several ships pass through the Soo Locks over the years, this still fascinates me each and every time.

As you can see from my below pictures, the weather couldn’t have been better over the weekend and the campground was very peaceful, too. I enjoyed every minute of my travels to the Eastern Upper Peninsula. If you’re looking to take the family on a vacation, I’d recommend Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. About a 3 hour drive from Marquette…
