Marquette, Michigan — It’s Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off in Marquette County! 103.3 The Country Extreme’s very own Doctor Don was live from Harlow Park in Marquette Saturday morning. Since it’s Fire Prevention Week, Firefighters are joining up with other fire and rescue departments around Marquette County for the annual Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off and Static Display.

Townships and Cities involved with the Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off included: Sands Township, West Branch Township, Skandia Township, Republic Township, Chocolay Township, Negaunee Township, Ishpeming Township, Marquette Township, and the Cities of Marquette and Negaunee.

It was a great day to bring the kids down as the beautiful fall weather continues through the weekend. There was plenty of prizes for the kids. At 12pm they gave away prizes that were donated by area businesses. Then at 12:30pm the Fire Trucks dropped their ladders, started up, then had a parade that left Washington Street.

Firefighter Ben Wilder of the Marquette Fire Department encourages you to make sure you test your smoke detectors. With lots of folks raking, cleaning up after the recent wind storm now is the time to stop and think about what you’re doing. Ben Wilder would like to remind you that if you’re burning with wood in your home, make sure your chimney has been swept, and visually inspected. These are common sense prevention tips.

Great old vehicles were on display. Did you know that 99% of trained professionals are volunteers in the area? If you stopped by just to say thanks, your support is greatly appreciated!
