sara_cera_show_otis_smallMeet Otis!  This adorable little guy is one and a half pounds of yorkie-poo!  When Jazz turned nine, her mom and dad surprised her with Otis and she is absolutely in love with him.  She isn’t the only one – Mari and Maijah also adore him.  It isn’t hard to see why.

Yes, he really is that tiny – and so soft and cuddly!  He stopped by for a visit on Monday and let everyone in the station fall in love with him.

Otherwise known as miniature Yorkshire Terriers, Teacup Yorkshire Terriers, mini Yorkies, micro Yorkies and Toy Yorkies – a Teacup Yorkie is a terrier that weighs anywhere between one and five pounds as an adult.  Yorkshire Terriers can weigh up to seven pounds, but as long as Otis stays at or under five pounds, he’ll be officially a teacup.

The most famous tiny yorkie was an English Yorkie named Sylvia, who only weighed four ounces.  She was a far cry from the original Yorkshire Terriers, who were bread as rat and mouse hunters and weighed anywhere from ten to fifteen pounds.  These days, Yorkies tend to be much smaller, and their coats a little less coarse so they sometimes have to wear doggy sweaters to keep warm – especially in the UP winter.
