Marquette, MIDecember 11, 2013: The first bipartisan budget since 1986 is a Christmas Miracle.

Evil Republicans wanted to cap spending at $967 billion (those cheapskates), while “good-hearted” democrats would prefer to spend $1.58 trillion.  The compromise splits the difference with spending of  $1.12 trillion in 2014, and another $1.14 trillion in 2015.

This will trim the annual deficit by roughly $2 billion per year.  WHAT??? This insignificant reduction is being called a “step in the right direction” by both sides – who apparently have very small feet.  There are some spending cuts and no new taxes (fees have replaced the word taxes).

This will avoid a government shutdown for 2 years, cut the deficit by $20 billion over 10 years, and shift spending cuts from the military and will require government workers to contribute more to their pensions.  But the deficit is still growing – just a bit more slowly.

This is being called a victory by some.  Many of them are clearly bad at math.
