I’m So Lucky To Have My Very Own Mechanic

worn ball joint

This is the old, worn out ball joint. Yikes!

Marquette, Michigan  –  January 20, 2014  –  Last Thursday I noticed a grinding sound when I braked, so I told my mechanically-inclined other half that he might need to change my brakes over the weekend.

The Honey-Do list at our house is pretty short, but my car always seems to be on it. I guess that’s what happens when you drive an older model car.

After breakfast on Saturday, Larry took my car into the garage and took it all apart. Then he went to town for new brakes (and rotors — since I didn’t notice the grinding until it was loud enough to hear over the heater).

Once he put everything back together, Larry noticed that the ball joint was badly worn and my wheel was just clunking around. Back to the parts store he went — what a great guy!

So after doing all kinds of work on my car and two trips into town for parts, my brakes, rotors AND ball joint were finally fixed. My car handles much better now and really grateful that the ball joint didn’t fail while I was driving on the highway.

That could have been a huge mess.

How about you? Have you ever had a ball joint fail while driving or any near misses? Or are you lucky enough to have your very own mechanic, like me?
