My ‘Say Yes to the Dress’
After getting engaged in April, I knew I had to start looking for a wedding dress soon, because I am SO indecisive!
My mom, sister and I decided to go Wednesday, June 5th to get some ideas of what I liked. I knew mermaid’s were out, but I did like dropped waists and beading! I made an appointment at Dan’s Bridal on Third Street in Marquette for 4 p.m.
When we got to Dan’s they had a big room with mirrors on every wall and consultants ready for me. It really was like “Say Yes to the Dress!” But I could not believe how heavy the dresses were! And they took about 5 minutes each to get into.
The first dress I tried on was from a picture I had from their website; it was gorgeous, unique and a good fit. Plus I could wear it riding up on my horse. It was going to be hard to beat!
After a pillowed bottom dress, a lighter fitted dress and a couple dresses with beading, dress # 6 was brought in. It was ivory…wasn’t too sure about that. It fit perfectly, so perfectly I was told it was made just for me!
My mom reacted strongly for the first time with, “I like that one. I really like that one!”
My sister and I weren’t to sure about some of the unique beading, but that’s what made it one-of-a-kind. And it really was one-of-a-kind, a brand new, discontinued dress that no one else had ever tried on or could ever get…if I wanted it.
They “jacked me up,” as Randy from “Say Yes to the Dress” would say, with a veil, head piece, and heals. They even brought the seamstress in to talk to me about the one change I would make: making the dress’s neckline a sweetheart shape instead of straight across.
After about 30 minutes with the dress on, walking to see the flow, switching rooms to see the train, talking through every detail, and yes getting the teary-eyed feeling, I said, “Yes!”
In 1.5 hours I put a deposit down and already had my dress. Which is crazy to me, but I couldn’t think of anything that would make the dress or a different dress better! It was a dropped waist with unique beading on the top, the side and the hips, the back was a corset, the train was long with an embellishment, the bodice was ruched, and it was satin! And it didn’t need to be altered at all!
The consultants told me that this “shocked-already done” feeling actually happens to more people than you’d know; it’s hard for brides to make a decision because they thought they’ll be looking for months.
But like the guy…when you know you know!
My mom said because my dress was so easy the bridesmaid dresses would probably be hard to find : ) That’s ok because I got my perfect wedding dress!
