Munising, Michigan  –  It all started with the hope of a winter day warm enough to enjoy the beautiful U.P. Winter.  We (Ann, Gary, Cori, Barb and I) lucked out big time as we cross country skied over 4 miles of frozen Lake Superior to view these Incredible Icicles.  Even though the wind was blowing across the lake we found it quite pleasant in the sun, as long as there was a tree, rock or large “Ice Tower” to block the wind.

My favorite part of the trip was unplugging for the day – there wasn’t good cell service so I didn’t have much of a choice.  We backpacked in some refreshments and snacks to refuel – my other favorite part! Overall the adventure lasted about 6 hours – plus 1 hr each way for the drive to and from Marquette.  When we unloaded that night back at home we were bushed the the adventure.

We’ve also visited the Eben Ice Caves this year and they were awesome.  As the temps start to climb, go check out an ice formation and shake off that cabin fever!  The Eben Ice Caves are much closer and the path in is in great shape, you wont need skis or snowshoes – just a good pair or boots and Yaktrxs if you have them.  We took Tobi our German Exchange Student to see them and he had a blast.  Another unique memory from his time in the U.P.
