Free Phone Frenzy – the Abuse of the Federal Lifeline Program

Baltimore - July 2012- The all inclusive Universal Access Fee on your cell bill has become unwarranted and abused as a universal charge.

I like the free phone package that AT&T does when you sign up for another contract.

Well… I need a phone anyway and a fresh phone is what is required every couple of years because they take a bundle of abuse. Since I am signing a contract to pay for services for an extended period of time, a free phone is something I am actually paying for and deserve.

But this little Federal Free Phone program with the Universal Access Fee that we all pay for on our cell bills is not quite right, and is now exposed and should be changed.
