Preakness Stakes Winner 2013

The 138th Preakness Stakes took place this past Saturday at the Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland.

After winning the Kentucky Derby two weeks prior, ORB was favored to win the Preakness too. But after getting stuck in between horses ORB fell back. Jockey, Joel Rosario said ORB doesn’t run well in crowds.

Oxbow, however, was looking a little like Secretariat, if any horse could. He got a great start and held the lead for the whole race. Jockey, Gary Stevens, who was the oldest Jockey on the field, said he just “walked the dog.”

Oxbow’s last practice before the race was great and they were confident. Gary just held him until the 1/2 mile mark and then let him run. The beautiful roan did it!

Congratulations to Oxbow!
