First Event for the U.P. Book Tour 2012 at K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum

The K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum welcomes the public to a U.P. Book Tour event at 402 3rd Street, K.I. Sawyer, on Saturday, June 23 at 8:00 p.m.

Poet, author, play write

Host Ron Riekki

Hosting the event will be the U.P. Book Tour project director, Ron Riekki. He is an author, poet and a play write. The tour is the subject of an upcoming documentary that Riekki will direct. Also, NMU Press will soon release an anthology of plays called “Your Map is Wrong- A Collection of Plays Set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”

The UP Book Tour 2012 will be held in 20 sites across the Upper Peninsula between June 19 and July 7, 2012.  Over 40 U.P. or Michigan based authors will participate in literary and theater events held to celebrate literature. There is no admission charge to attend the programs thanks to sponsorship, in part, by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Featured writers for the evening include Sue Harrison, Laura Kasischke, Catie Rosemurgy and Eric Torgersen. The published works of these authors include novels, poetry, and screenplays. A book sale and signing opportunity will follow the presentation/panel discussion.

Listings of Book Tour events and authors can be found online at www.upbooktour.org or call (906) 226-4318.
