33rd Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival Kick-off
Marquette, MI-07/21/2011- The 33rd Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival begins tomorrow evening. The kick-off for that event is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marquette.
This is a first time kick-off collaborative event with Hiawatha Co-op and Beaumier UP Heritage Center on the Campus of Northern Michigan University. It will feature pre-blue grass appalachian style music with the popular Dan Levenson. He calls this event “An Evening with Dan Levenson and Stories from the Road”. He will perform with a banjo and fiddle as well as a back up guitar. The event will be hosted by Phil Watts, a member of the Hiawatha Music Co-op Board.
This week Levenson has been participating in a two day workshop with banjo and fiddle players. The concert tonight is a wrap-up to these events and a kick-off for this weekend’s festival.
Cost to get into the event is $10 for adults and $5 for people 18 and under.
