Negaunee – January 5, 2013 – I learned yesterday that if the motor won’t start because the spark is low, on an older Chevy big block 6 cylinder, it might be related to the ignition coil. There is a large resistor that goes before the coil. That tested fine. But if the coil measures resistance much different that .75 to .88 ohms across the primary, where the plus sign and negative dash is stamped on the coil; and much different than 10,000 to 11,000 ohms across the secondary, the place where the distributor plugs in, the coil is probably bad. Bad coil, no start.
Wow, another $25 lesson.
