
Ishpeming – February 6, 2013 – Hundred of people gathered for the 126th annual ski jump at Suicide Hill Ishpeming.
WFXD Photographer, Naomi Noordyk, made these comments; “There were a lot of people. It was cold and very snowy. My camera got quite wet. This is definitely a community event where you know everybody. I feel happy and proud to do something so specific to a culture like our own. I also like the button.”
WFXD reporter Joe Vizena of Negaunee interviewing three of the the skiers for 103.3 WFXD. One skier was from Harvey, one from Chicago and one from Minnesota.
Bib #1 was worn by Zak Hammill of Harvey Michigan. He is a member of the Ishpeming ski club and is the Jr. coach. Hammill got into skiing when his sister brought home a flyer that said, “Learn How To Ski.” His practice jump was 81 meters and his first official jump was 90.5 meters. Hammill is 21 years old. He skied on Elan skis.




Bib #5 was worn by Casey Larson, 14 years old from Chicago Illinois. Larson got into skiing from an open house and is a good active skier. He said the conditions were Good tonight. His practice jump was 75meters and his 1st jump was 84.5meters on his Fischer skies.

Bib #15 was worn by Trevor Edmund from St. Paul Minnesota in a purple suit. Edmund started skiing at age 2. Edmund said before he jumped he was looking for 80meters and his jump was 71.5 meters on his Fischer skis.
