
“Feel free to use the bike. Just lock it up.” My dad let me play on his limited edition touring bike all week. Locking it was the only condition. Happy to comply, I locked the bike securely before walking into
the mall. Half an hour later, I entered the combination to unlock the bike.

I stared down at the lock. The combination was right. Why wasn’t opening? I shook the lock in frustration then wished I had a set of wire cutters. Finally, I yanked sharply on the bike lock only to stumble backwards when the lock slid smoothly open. Wow! I grinned, feeling a little stupid. The lock was merely sticky – I could have pulled it open 10 minutes ago!
