I learned something new today about two accomplished recording artists. Back in 2011, rock singer, Alice Cooper went out to Nashville to record his 19th album, “Welcome 2 My Nightmare” with producer Bob Ezrin. While working with one particular track, “A Runaway Train”, Cooper felt that the recording needed some special guitar work.
While both Cooper and Ezrin discussed who they could ask to record their track, they mentioned various prospects – Chickenfoot’s Joe Satriani and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. Finally, Alice wanted to call country star, Vince Gill.

Gill agreed to record with Cooper, brings in his telecaster and rips through the song’s recording. After the session, the recording was played back for Cooper’s band to hear and his guitar players just looked at each other and asked, “Who’s going to play THAT!!”

I couldn’t find a recording of “A Runaway Train” but I did find a segment of Alice and Vince playing together for a Nashville Predators hockey game. Two musical peas in a pod!!!
Here’s a segment from the Nashville game…
