Country Music Hall of Famer and Grand Ole Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens passed away on January 2nd.
Dickens was admitted to a Nashville hospital on Christmas after suffering a stroke and later passed away as a result of a heart attack caused by the stroke on January 2nd.
James Cecil Dickens was born in Bolt, W. Va. On December 19, 1920. He attended West Virginia University, also performed on a local radio station. Dickens later quit school and began pursuing his musical career in the late 1930’s under the name Jimmy the Kid.

The singer singed with Columbia, joined the Opry in 1948 and began using his memorable nickname gained from his 4 foot 11 inch stature.

Dickens recorded such novelty songs for Columbia as “I’m Little But I’m Loud”, “Out Behind the Barn”, “A-Sleeping At The Foot of The Bed” and “Take An Old Cold Tater (and Wait)”.
Dickens is survived by his wife Mona and daughters Pamela Detert and Lisa King.
