Negaunee, MI – April 27, 2015 – One of the best ways to beat identity theft is to shred papers that have confidential information on them. Honor Credit Union is hosting a Community Shred Day at their branch in Negaunee on May 1st from noon to 4 p.m. so you can safely dispose of the old documents that might be cluttering up your file cabinets.
From now to October, Honor Credit Union locations across the state will be hosting Community Shred Days to provide members and non-members with a no-cost opportunity to securely shred and recycle old documents and contribute to the health of the environment at the same time.

Did you know that recycling one ton of paper saves:
- 17 trees
- 6,953 gallons of water
- 463 gallons of oil
- 587 pounds of air pollution
- 3 cubic yards of landfill space
Honor Credit Union knows how important it is to safeguard your confidential documents, so they’ve partnered with Country Mile Document Destruction, a bonded and insured document destruction company that has reliably served the U.P. and part of Wisconsin since 2001.

Last year, Honor Credit Union Community Shred Days securely shredded and recycled over 40,000 lbs. of paper, saving more than 341,000 trees! So far this year, the total to beat is 13,870 lbs. of paper shredded and recycled. Northern Division President Ron Lauren said his goal is to shred and recycle 14,000 lbs. If the Negaunee branch reaches that goal, it would save over 45,000 trees!
