Creepy Carvings to Ease my Halloween Excitement

Pumpkins Carving Time Burton Oogie Boogie Jack Skellington Inspiration Halloween Marquette Real
Oogie Boogie on the left and Jack Skellington on the right, how spooky!

Marquette, MichiganOctober 29, 2105 – Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. The weather is crisp and chill, the leaves spawn into a stunning array of colors, and of course, all the scary movies that pop-up on my Netflix. I grew up on the classic slasher films like Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, not to mention there plethora of sequels. So while scary costumes and scaring the pants off people rub other people the wrong way, I thrive on it.

Since Halloween is only 2 days away (HOORAY), I’ve had to get my fill of Halloween festivities in other ways. This particular week was reserved to daunting and unsettling Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movies like Sweeny Todd, Coraline and  The Nightmare Before Christmas. The latter was my inspiration to carve pumpkins with a friend of mine a few days ago.

I found my inspiration in  Oogie Boogie, a spin of the Boogey man. As a slight perfectionist, I was initially worried for the challenge of carving the thin strips of his sinister smile and his menacing eyes. My carving commodore  chose an easier route by trying to capture the frightening facial structure of Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King.

We were both pretty successful and enjoyed the movie playing in the background. Spending time with friends was an added plus!

Happy Halloween to all our loyal listeners!
