I had a great time on-air today playing you some great country and bluegrass hits, including I Wonder Where You Are Tonight by Bluegrass Legends Del, Doc & Mac. We had a throw back from George Jones with Her Name Is as well as some more of the ever popular Tony Rice singing Blue Railroad Train for the Outlaw Cuts. Elmor had a cut on the show too featuring Johnny Reb by Johnny Horton.
Starting off the show with some perch and walleye reports out of Big Bay DeNoc confirmed by Diane from Bayview Bait n Tackle in Gladstone. Diane told use people where still using minnows to catch some perch up near Garden, but overall it’s been pretty quiet! The U.P. is getting some good income from visiting anglers with people coming up from the Lower Peninsula and Wisconsin to fish. If you’re looking to catch some walleye, put a husky jerk on line. Looking at the forecast, we are hoping the cold weather sets in soon to form ice on the lakes to start ice fishing season!
Returning to talk to use again, we caught Kevin Swanson, MDNR wolf, cougar and bear biologist out in a field. Kevin was learning some of the areas in Gwinn waiting for the significant snow to start the Wolf Survey. The survey will be very important that will show the impact recent changes in the environment have had on the wolf populations. All the data from the project will predict an estimate on the population of wolves in the Upper Peninsula. Looking to hear about any brawls, I asked Kevin about last weeks Bear Forum. The meeting was very productive despite the common disagreement about wanting more or less bears in Michigan. Michigan has great bear hunting with the state wide harvest coming in at about 1650 bears.

Starting off our Big Boy Recap, Steve Whelan and I joked about the Red Wings and their performance during the third period of games. Losing to the Sabres last night, the wings did not make their 800th game win in the Joe. With a long break until the wings next game, Steve and I hope they bring it back full force for their game against Canucks. The Oilers won their first game in Boston since 1996 with a 47 save performance by their goal-tender Cam Talbot. Looking at the Brewers, Will Middlebrooks to a minor league deal and Joe Qatato is headed to the Giants. I got surprised last night by Eli Manning as he threw some great passes in last nights game.
We hope you had a great time tuning-in to today’s Adam Carpenter’s Outdoor Show! Tune in tomorrow for another great day of hunting, fishing, and sports in the UP and Michigan!
