Ishpeming, Michigan – January 11th, 2016 – I’ve been trying to find reasons to justify using a scoop over a snowblower. The reasons are pretty obvious. Let’s face it, using a scoop is free and gives you exercise! Even when you have over 12″ of heavy, wet snow in your driveway. This past weekend I let the snow build up from Thursday through Sunday. On Sunday evening I finally whipped out the trusty old scoop and cleared my driveway and sidewalks around my home.
Yes, using a scoop can be back breaking. It’s very tedious when you’re tired and just want to relax. It seems that sometimes I have to literally force myself to walk outside and shovel the driveway. Obviously, I don’t even own a snowblower. I have no intentions in owning one anytime soon, either.
Snowblowers easily cost over $1,000. With a price tag like that I’d rather stick to the scoop. The past couple of storms we’ve had haven’t been anything record breaking. And with El Nino now in the picture I’m sure hoping that it will stick that way.
Pros and Cons of using a snowblower…
1.) It’s quick and gets the job done.
2.) It’ll blow the snow further from the driveway than your scoop can. Wait, your scoop can’t do that!
3.) You don’t need a whole lot of motivation to actually use it.
4.) It can be costly to maintain.
5.) They’re very heavy and difficult to lug around.
6.) Very expensive.
7.) They need a place to be stored in the summertime.
Pros and Cons of using a scoop…
1.) It’s free and is good for the environment.
2.) It helps to keep you in tone and in shape.
3.) They’re small and easy to store anytime of the year!
4.) It’s easier to fit in those hard to reach places around the yard.
5.) You actually need motivation to push these around.
6.) No maintenance required.
So, as you can see the scoop wins! Just make sure you’re keeping up with the snow when we’re in the middle of a snow storm. It can (and will) catch you by surprise!
