Driving to “Weird Al” Yankovic in the Copper Country?

Copper Harbor, MichiganMay 24th, 2016 – On Saturday night I decided to take advantage of the abundant sunshine that was forecast for Sunday and take a 1.5 hour drive up to the Copper Country from Ishpeming. The buds on the trees were popping out and the temperature gauge inside my car said it was 78 degrees early in the morning in Ishpeming on Sunday. This was the perfect time to visit my friend, Jerry, in Hancock. I usually take the drive to the Keweenaw every May to fulfill my Copper Country needs!

I arrived in Hancock where my friend lives around noon on Sunday. We sat outside, relaxed, and chatted over blood sucking mosquitoes! They were nearly unbearable! We toughed it out and after a few hours made the trek up to Copper Harbor to visit The Mariner, a local restaurant in downtown Copper Harbor that shadows most of the other buildings in town. The food was a 10/10! Excellent choice!

After taking a drive through Fort Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor we decided to head back to Hancock. Since the drive is about 1 hour from one town to the other, Jerry decided to pop in a CD inside the CD player titled “Weird Al” Yankovic. What? “Weird Al”? He’s still alive!?! “Weird Al” Yankovic was HUGE back when I was in high school in the early 2000’s.

Jerry told me that “Weird Al” just completed his last album, before retiring. When he popped it inside the CD Player I couldn’t help myself from crying due to laughing hysterically! The parodies that “Weird Al” performed of songs like “Timber” by Ke$ha and “Happy” by Parrell Williams almost had me on the car floor in tears! We listened to about 10 of them. Before I knew it we were back on the ground in Hancock with “Weird Al” parodies on our minds. Trip well spent? The tears in my eyes from laughter and my sore stomach might disagree. My mind would agree…
