Marquette, Michigan – October 25, 2016 – Tonight marks the start of the new NBA season, and the beginning of the title defense for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 2016 NBA Finals was perhaps the most exhilarating sports event in my life.
There were so many different dynamics in the series that allowed it to be so great. It featured the best regular season team of all-time with the Warriors winning 73 games, the most ever in a regular season. It also featured one of the greatest players to ever play, trying to bring a championship to a city that had not seen one in many years.
With the Cavs trailing 3 games to 1, LeBron James improbably lead the largest comeback in NBA Finals history to solidify himself among rare air in NBA legend lore.
In the off season, with a blown championship haunting them like bad breath, the Warriors made the biggest free agent acquisition since the Miami Heat acquired LeBron James in 2011. On the 4th of July, Kevin Durant announced he would be leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder and joining the Golden State Warriors.
After months of speculation and predictions for the upcoming season, opening night is finally upon us. The Cleveland Cavaliers will be raising their championship banner tonight before their game against the New York Knicks. The Golden State Warriors will tip off 3 hours later against the San Antonio Spurs.
An incredible off season has come and gone. The games officially count. And The King returns to defend his crown.
