Marquette, Michigan – October 7, 2015 – I turned 20 yesterday and it was, hands down, the best birthday of my life. My best friend took it upon herself to throw me my first ever surprise party that was so well hidden, I cried in the middle of Sol Azteca.
She picked me up at 7pm to get ice cream from Dairy Queen because my day was so jammed pack of normal activities, like school and work, that this was all we thought I really had time for. She told me, as we turned down Lakeshore Boulevard, that she wanted to take the scenic route, which should have been my first hint because it was so out of the way.
We pulled into a parking lot by Sol Azteca and she broke the news that we weren’t going to get ice cream because that would be a horrible birthday dinner. At this point, I was already beyond touched, but I held the tears back. We linked arms and walked inside to a long table full of people hiding behind menus who screamed “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHELSEA!”
I think it’s important to mention that I cry over everything, I’m just an emotional girl. So you can only imagine the emotional wreck I was as my best friend put a tiara on my head and all my other friends
were sitting there, showing their pearly whites.
Dinner was especially delicioso having all my favorite people in the world there with me. Of course, the cherry on top was when the servers came out with dessert, placed a sombrero on my head and sang happy birthday. Did you know the Sol Azteca servers wipe whipped cream on your face after they’re done singing? They do!
We went back to the house for my second surprise, a Minions ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and the rest of my friends that couldn’t make it to dinner. I cannot thank anybody enough for making yesterday so special. Finger’s crossed that the next one is just as good!
