Negaunee, Michigan– 01/14/16– The Gwinn ModelTowner Girls basketball traveled to Negaunee to take on the Negaunee Miners. It was an intense game all night for both teams. Mike James and Justin Beauchamp brought you all of this game’s action on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9. It was also streamed at GoToGwinn.com.
The first quarter of the game was pretty hot. Tiara Taylor of Gwinn made a great hook shot and another spin and drop step shot to tie up the score right away twice. The ModelTowners did have an attitude that they wanted to be there and they wanted to play a good, hard
game against the Miners. The ModelTowners did have an advantage against the Miners with their height and it really helped them. Tori Lauren, Tiara Taylor and Nichole Usher of the ModelTowners also scored in the first quarter. 10-14 was the score at the end of the first with the Miners in the lead. Tori Lauren, of Gwinn, had a great advantage against the Miners with her height and she was able to make quite a few shots and hook shots. Taylor Ennis joined the game when Tiara Taylor fouled out in the second quarter. 17-28 was the score at half time with the Miners in the lead again.
Third quarter action was a little slower than the first two. Coach Olsen was having a hard time on the sidelines just because he knew the ModelTowner ladies had it in them
to do better. Tori Lauren, Gwinn, did come back into the game and made a shot for the ModelTowners to help bring them back into the action. 26-45 was the score at the end of the third with the ModelTowners trailing. Fourth quarter picked up for Gwinn as Tori Lauren started it off great with a nice hook shot for Gwinn. Anna Cole got on the board with a nice shot as well for the ModelTowners. Nichole Usher, Gwinn, got a great three pointer and then just like that, the ModelTowners were creeping up on the Miners and it was definitely known as the Miners started taking more timeouts. Over all it was a very up tempo game between two great teams! Final score was 41-57 with the Miners taking the win.
