St. Joseph, MI – December 21, 2015 – Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) announced the winners of their 2016 Awards on December 8th, and Honor Credit Union CEO Scott McFarland took the title of Credit Union Professional of the Year, while Director of Human Resources Katie Berry took the title of Young Professional of the Year.
The Professional of the Year award recognizes an individual whose strong leadership and accomplishments better their individual credit union, their chapter, the Michigan Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association. Since being named CEO of Honor Credit Union in 2008, Scott McFarland has built a team that prides itself on the philosophy of “people helping people” while also growing Honor Credit Union by 170 percent!
McFarland credits the substantial growth to a strong member and community base, a progressive and supportive board of directors, and the credit union’s dedicated staff and executive team. McFarland believes the key to serving more members is by serving each member individually, and the credit’ union’s goal is to provide each member not only with solutions for financial success, but with an overall member experience that exceeds expectations.
The Young Professional of the Year award recognizes an individual who proves dedication and enthusiasm for the credit union movement. Berry joined Honor Credit Union six years ago as the Benefits Coordinator. Today, she serves as Honor’s Director of Human Resources.
Berry is an invaluable and well-respected member of the Honor Credit Union team. She remains instrumental in minimizing turnover and maximizing promotion, while working with team members to recognize their talent and potential. Berry continues to work tirelessly to improve the credit union by using all instances of employee turnover as learning opportunities, working to identify areas where the credit union can improve, and minimizing future attrition.
McFarland and Berry will travel to Detroit in June of 2016 to be officially awarded by the MCUL.
