Munising, Michigan – June 15th, 2020 – After talking about it for several months, I finally got over to Alger County to explore a couple waterfalls on Saturday! Actually, it’s been more like a couple years. The views of Chapel Falls near Munising and Miners Falls were absolutely breathtaking. They’re only about 15 miles from Munising.
My nephews, sister, and brother-in-law packed in their car and headed east to explore the mighty Alger County waterfalls. Even though we’ve talked about exploring these waterfalls over the past couple of years, the wait was more than worth it. With temperatures holding steady near 60 degrees all day… you couldn’t ask for more!
First, we checked out Chapel Falls. The hike from the main parking lot was about 1.6 miles in the woods. Considering the bugs weren’t bad at all made this hike very enjoyable. Plus, the trail was very clean and marked properly. We took several shots of the waterfalls–Chapel Falls–which you could clearly hear the water all around the trail. It wasn’t too busy, either.
After enjoying the beautiful views of Chapel Falls, we jumped back in the car to our next destination–Miners Falls. This was about 10 miles from Chapel Falls outside of Munising. The road was a bit rough that led to the falls. There was also plenty of dust coming from the dirt road. After the dust cleared, we could see the trail to Miners Falls! This hike was only about 1/2 mile from the main road. In my opinion, it was more scenic than the previous hike to Chapel Falls. More hills and more trees. We arrived at the platform that overlooked Miners Falls. We definitely saved the best for last! It was busier here with large crowds.
We wrapped up our day with a visit to a local restaurant in downtown Munising. After filling up with some grub, we were headed back west to Marquette!
If you get a chance, definitely take a day trip over to Munising and take in all Alger County has to offer.
