Summer Came to a Close with the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba

Escanaba, MichiganAugust 24th, 2015 – I hate to admit it, but the UP State Fair is a sign that summer is definitely coming to a close. The UP State Fair wrapped up down in Escanaba on Sunday. I’m glad to say that this year I was more excited than ever to be a part of the magic that is the UP State Fair. From the Steam Engine to the DNR Pocket Park, the Ferris Wheel(s) to the Beer Battered Cheese Curds – my adrenaline rush and my taste buds won’t soon forget this year’s UP State Fair in Escanaba.

My friends and I decided to head down to the UP State Fair on Tuesday. We camped at a City Park in Gladstone called the Gladstone Bay Campground. It was quite windy during the day, but at least the rain held off till Wednesday. We immediately headed down U.S. 2&41 to the UP State Fair. Our first mission was to walk into the Ruth Butler Building. That’s where we saw Dale from Gwinn Furniture Outlet and the $14,000 Ultimate Cave Giveaway on display at his booth.

Our second mission was to quench our thirst with some delicious lemonade! We washed down delicious beer battered cheese curds with the lemonade! Life was gooooood. We enjoyed a game of bingo in the bingo tent where all proceeds benefited Little League.

We watched lumber being cut (as it happened) along with a stroll through the Michigan DNR Pocket Park. It’s always a tradition for my friends and I to attend the UP State Fair. I was a little disappointed that the weather wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be.

The sounds of laughter from children all around filled our ears and the smell of cotton candy filled our senses! What an awesome trip to Escanaba and well worth it! I’m already thinking about the summer of 2016 and what the UP State Fair will bring…
