Ontonagon, Michigan – September 1st, 2015 – This past weekend I couldn’t resist a drive to Lake of the Clouds in Ontonagon County, Michigan. The last time I was here was probably about 10 years ago. I was a young whipper snapper back then. I wanted to test my climbing skills as I hiked a few trails around the Porcupine Mountains. This is a VERY gorgeous gem in the Upper Peninsula – I would highly recommend a visit to Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains.
It’s about a 3 hour drive from Marquette to the Porcupine Mountains. Late Sunday afternoon I decided to take a last minute drive to Ontonagon County’s Lake of the Clouds. Since this is a very rural part of the Upper Peninsula that made it a relaxing drive.
My climbing skills were re-energized! Success! I probably walked about 2-3 miles on Sunday. The view of Lake of the Clouds from the top of the Porkies was breathtaking. It’s just as I remembered. I would go back here in a heartbeat. Heck, I would love to retire to this area.
I bumped into a very nice woman who was taking pictures of Lake of the Clouds from the top of the cliff that overlooks this majestic lake. She kindly asked if I wanted my picture taken. I said “Sure… I was just thinking it would be nice to have a picture taken with the lake in the background.”
Take a gander through my pictures from Lake of the Clouds in Ontonagon County. IF you get a chance before summer wraps up get on over to Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains. You’re sure to be back for another visit.
