Calumet, Michigan – June 13th, 2016 – State Parks are always a perfect getaway on the weekend. This past weekend I decided to trek up to the Keweenaw and visit my friend who was camping at McLain State Park near Calumet over the weekend. My buddy recently purchased an A-Frame Trailer from Hilltop RV in Ishpeming. Since then, he’s vowed to camp every weekend this summer at a random State Park. This past weekend he just happened to be at McLain State Park near Calumet.
McLain State Park is about 9 miles north of Hancock. The park is situated right along the shores of Lake Superior. At night, it is absolutely breathtaking! I haven’t been to McLain State Park since 2006! Since then, they’ve moved a few sites around, it’s a little more wooded, and more of the shoreline has eroded into the deep waters of Lake Superior.
I took a drive up on Friday night, and stayed through Saturday afternoon. My friend had a campfire going near the shoreline at his campsite. In the foreground, we had a perfect view of the moon over Lake Superior. How relaxing! It was a long week, and this was the perfect way to cap off that long week.
When’s the last time you were at McLain State Park? If it’s been over 10 years, you’re well overdue for a visit…
