2/2/2015 Houghton, Michigan — I spent a majority of my weekend in the Copper Country with a buddy of mine that lives in Hancock. We usually eat out at our favorite restaurants (there’s plenty of them in the Copper Country) maybe pick up a few brews, and enjoy a night out on the town. This weekend was a little different, however. I told my buddy I would love to stop at the Copper Country Mall. He said “Why would you waste your time there; there’s absolutely nothing to do there!” I had to see the Copper County Mall to believe it!
Unfortunately, as it turns out, my buddy was right! He’s usually wrong. The Copper Country Mall has deteriorated into a place to do some laps without having to worry about bumping in to anybody. It’s very depressing. What was once my favorite mall in the Upper Peninsula is now the most depressing stop in the Copper Country. Most of the old businesses are boarded up AND vacant. So, what did I do? I made a few laps around the mall, did some shopping at JCP, and reminisced about the good ol’ days when the Copper Country Mall in Houghton was hopping!
