Marquette, Michigan – October 31, 2016 – Coming into Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines had lost 7 of their previous 8 games against Michigan State. The Wolverines looked destined to not make it 8 out of 9 as they dominated for 50 minutes en route to a 32-23 victory.
The game started with Michigan State looking like they were poised for an upset. They took the opening possession and marched right through the vaunted Michigan defense and punched it in to go up 7-0 right away. The rest of the half was all Wolverines. Michigan’s offense could not be stopped, scoring on 5 straight possessions to take a 27-10 lead into halftime.
Michigan State made it close in the 4th quarter, but the outcome was never really in question. This victory was big for the Wolverines. It was Jim Harbaugh’s first win against arrival in his short tenure at the helm of the Wolverines football program. This gets the proverbial monkey off of his back when it comes to beating rivals, as that was priority number 1 when he took the job.
The Wolverines are ranked #2 in the country with 4 games left, and a showdown in Columbus looming November 26th. Michigan is in control of their own destiny for a Big ten Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff. With the finish line in sight, you can bet Harbaugh and co. will be ready for whatever is thrown their way.
