We started out with Nick from Superior Outfitters in downtown Marquette. Runor had it that no one in Big Bay was carrying shiners for the Derby this weekend. He confirmed that he does have shiners as well as a full array of other live bait including wigglers. We discussed hot lures and his secret weapon for panfish and trout (or any light biting species of fish). Its a form of tip up called the JAW JACKER. We also spoke about recent winter steelheading reports and how good they were before this frigidness arrived.
Later, Pete Sorel from Settlers Co-Op in Bruce Crossing joined us in the studio. He is in town to fish in the Big Bay Ice Fishing Derby on Lake Independence and he shared his plan of attack as well as some specific baits he will be trying. Pete then shared ice fishing reports from western U.P. lakes including, Lake Gogebic, Lac Vieux Desert and others. Have a listen:
