Marquette, MI – March 23, 2015 – Whether you’re walking or driving, watch out for power lines on the ground this spring. Winter may be over, but branches and trees can come down as the snow melts. It’s easy to speed over a downed power line, but don’t do it!
Major Discount, a guy that loves the Dead River Basin, noticed that people are ignoring admonishments from a year ago. UPPCO has not been warning people yet this spring not to drive over power lines, but that doesn’t mean the advice from last year should be ignored.
Here’s the story: two cars, one truck driven by a man, and one driven by a lady, drove over a downed power line over on South Basin Drive in Negaunee Township while on the way to the Dead River Basin. They were going to their home or their camp, and didn’t stop when a tree took down a power line.
They drove right over it. Nothing happened this time, but their supper (or worse – they themselves) could have been cooked before they got home.
Be smart and be careful this spring. If you see a downed power line, don’t touch it and don’t drive over it! Call the power company and let them know.
We want you safe in town, on the road, and at camp.
