The U.P.’s High School Track Finals Are Saturday
The sun, the fans, the excitement…the stomach ache, the wooziness, the nerves. IT’S U.P. FINALS!!!
It seems like just yesterday I was running 14 (that’s 3 1/2 miles), 400 meter repeats getting ready for the biggest race in my high school track career. We trained hard and ran harder to get ready for the infamous meet. It was hundreds of people from every school in the U.P. sitting in the stands, literally frying in the sun, cheering on there children and friends.
What a crazy day, I still get nervous thinking about it and this year it’s my sister who is running the race for her last time. She qualified in all four relays, which is awesome! We like relays better because you have to run for your teammates and it’s more of a motivation than running for yourself for us.
We will be headed to Kingsford, Michigan tomorrow for the meet which starts at 9 a.m. (Eastern time) and this is the first time in the seven year streak that I’ve been going that there is suppose to be cool weather. Kingsford has a 50% chance of rain with a high of 68 degrees for Saturday. Hopefully it doesn’t rain! There is also suppose to be 19 mph winds, which wouldn’t be good for the runners. But somehow it always ends up being nice, so nice in fact that all the family in the stands are sent home looking like tomatoes no matter how much sunscreen they use. You see this is an all day (like 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) event.
Whatever the weather may be, it is always fun to go cheer on my family and I am looking forward to tomorrow!
Maybe I’ll see you there?!
