Indio, California held it’s Stagecoach Country Music Festival with some of today’s biggest stars: Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton. But on the smaller side stage, the Mustang Stage, new acts were creating a buzz.
Old Man Markley, a seven-member band that plays the washboards, banjo, and old fashion washtub bass caught the audience with their high energy really and their ‘punk bluegrass’ style.
John Carey, the singer/guitarist, said that they were all punk music fans, but all it has to do with their music now it the approach they take to songwriting.
“The term ‘punk’ is not a literal thing with us.” John said. “It’s more just the attitude of doing what we want, of approaching music differently and taking it to a place that’s really unique.”
The group is currently working on a new album and crossing the country playing different gigs. Their tour bus is a renovated Seattle City bus complete with tuck-away beds and original artwork on the walls : )
Check out Theboot.com and you can see their video for “For Better, For Worse.” It features Big Foot and it starts out funny, but I think the limb-ripping is unnecessary and ruins it. But I did love the song.
Look for them near you, it sounds like you don’t want to miss these guys!
