It has served the City of Ishpeming proudly for 100 years, but according to the local firefighters, it’s time has passed. During the recent special meeting of the Ishpeming City Council, City Manager Jared Ottenwess presented evidence showing that it is time for a new fire hall.
The current condition of the building is structurally unsound, and now the question becomes how to pay for a 3 million dollar replacement? Tax increases, in the form of a millage vote, will be the likely solution.
No final decision has been made, and the discussion will continue at a future
City Council meeting in July.
