Ishpeming – 10/10/2010 – A call for unification went out among the members of the Wednesday Night Music Club one month ago. Westwood High School’s Music Department was in need of financial assistance to help keep their program going. Paul Heinonen of Ishpeming rallied the musicians to present a night of music at the Westwood school gym. Todd Noordyk, GM of Great Lakes Radio wheeled up his trailer full of sound equipment to provide mega-sound and power for the event and all in attendance enjoyed the festivities. Approximately $2,000 was raised to assist the school’s music program.
Ishpeming’s own snare drumming sensation, Wayne Oien, recent 1st Place Winner in the DCA’s Regional Drum Off, was present to present his Contest winning rudiment routine. Musicians playing for the concert were Ben Kronvall, Naomi Noordyk, The Goldmine Girls, female trio V.I.P. Lauren Ferguson singing vocals to acoustic duo of Kurt & Kim of GLC, Drew & the Geezers and grand finale with members of Bordertown along with the Wednesday Night Music Club. The Westwood Percussion Section performed a drum cadence routine and student from the Westwood Music Department performed a dance routine to a medley of songs. Thanks to all who came out and supported Westwood’s Music Program!!!
